“Mama, mummy, mummy help pleaseeee” – The sound of my son calling for help grew fainter and fainter as the battery in my hearing aides slowly died.
I kept running, sweats flooding down my body in torrents. “He was just here, he was just… Breathe, stay focused, listen”… “Watch it!”-A driver shouted, he almost hit me. I couldn’t hear him but I could read lips.
I muttered “SORRY” before turning around to tap on my hearing aides, i needed to hear… I needed to. I was at a T-junction now, “mamaaaa” – I heard, it was coming from the left and so I ran, as fast as my legs could carry, “Give me back my son, he’s just a little boy” – I kept yelling. My voice was drowned out by the incoming train but I didn’t stop. I had to get my boy back. I stopped at the tracks waiting for the train to pass so I could continue when I heard; “Mrs Joseph”- A man said behind me, he was a police officer. “Ohh Thank God, they’ve got my boy, he’s six, he had on a blue hoodie, blue jeans and white shoes, they went that way, please help me, please help me get my boy back. We just went to see the Snow White PANTOMIME at Theater six, he was standing right beside me, he was sta…” I broke into tears, my voice breaking as I spoke. “Its okay, it’s ok…-The police man said, gently leading me to his car, there were lots of police cars behind him. “They went that way, why are we going back, we need to get them now”- I said, struggling to break free from the cop’s grip but he held me tighter. “Mrs Joseph, Josh is dead, he’s been dead two years now, he was kidnapped at theatre six and when you ran after the assailant, they shot you in the head, we found Josh’s body 24hours later, he had been raped and mutilated, I am really sorry” – The officer said. “No, no, no, no, you are wrong, they just took Josh, I heard them, I heard them”- I said, tears peeling away my essence. “No you didn’t Mrs Joseph, This is the 3rd time, you’ve left the psychiatric ward to look for Josh, I am truly sorry but he is gone”-The cop continued… “Not my Josh, Not my josh” – I kept saying as the police vehicle drove me back to the clinic.
