One of the most life changing stories I learned on anger and fights was about a young man I met in prison. He had been there for 9 months.
He was involved in a fight where he was stabbed all over. The scars from the stab wounds were still visible and healing, but he’d been locked up because the other person involved in the fight with him did not survive his injuries.
It was being treated as a murder case and he was going to be tried for murder/manslaughter.
He was about 32 at the time, and yet to achieve any tangible thing with his life. If he’s found guilty, he’d probably be doing a 25. Add that to his age and most of his youthful life is wasted. All gone.
Just to prove a point of superiority and strength, the juiciness of his life is all gone. If he survives the Nigerian prison system for that long anyway. If he don’t lose his sanity or die inside the shithole.
This also reminds me of a story I read one time, of a person who slapped another to his death. A mere slap, and that’s it.
The narrative will always change when the fight goes your way. This isn’t wwe or the ufc. If someone dies by your hands, the narrative will always change.
We just get lucky everyday. Some peeps are walking corpse and they are the ones to step on your foot the most. They are the ones to cross the visible redlines you’d set purposely. “Stop it!” They won’t listen. Just to get you mad. They’re quick to pat you on the chest to start a fight, cuss you out and spit in your face. That’s them. It’s Difficult to play the blind eye and ignore all their bullshit, but it’s all the temptation you need to not fall for to save your life. There’s no CCTV camera, autopsy or forensic to determine the original cause of death for these ones, in this sick country with almost nothing working.
People are looking for who to kill them, so they use you as deliberate means for their suicidal attempts. They just don’t want to die by their own hands. Be grown. Be mature. Don’t let all that taunting get at you. They be chanting ‘lazy fool’ ‘olé, e no sabi fight’ ‘see small pikin wey dey carry you play’. Those are the voices of death and ruin. Ignore them, They’re the ones to testify against you in court.
