Welcome dear Sensualists to another episode of Adanne’s daily dose of knowledge. 👏👏👏👏 Today we are going to talk about the usage of some words in the English language.
Some of these words include quite and quiet. I am, I’m & am. You, you are you’re & your. They’re, their & there and also the pronunciation of the word “meme”
Recently I read an Instagram quarrel somewhere between two hot celebrities and I noticed a lot of Quite instead of quiet (please don’t ask me their names, me sef I don’t know).
⚫
QUITE: is used to show the extent or degree of a situation or thing. Eg: This is quite huge.
Please do not say – I am a quite girl (do you see how that sounds now?
QUIET: means to make little or no noise eg: I am a quiet girl
I am and I’m can be used interchangeably in a statement, eg: I am a girl or I’m a girl ⚫ Am is the first person singular of be, you cannot say am a girl.
You is flat out self explanatory, you’re is an abbreviation for you are. eg : you are beautiful & you’re beautiful – is very correct.
Your is used to show possession: eg: that is your house, that is your bag. You cannot say Your a beautiful girl.
They’re eg: they’re all walking towards the south gate
Their is used to show possession eg: The land is their’s
There points to a place or time or used to focus attention on something eg: I was in Japan last week, I stayed there for about 2 days.
The word meme is NOT pronounced as “me-me”, the correct pronunciation is “mim”
The word memes is not pronounced me-mess, the correct pronunciation is mims.
